Exploring the stories behind users

Design Brief

Digital publishing is evolving with the advent of magazines on iPad. This project is to explore this new form of communication. It further explores the stories behind users, clients, environment they interact with, the experience they go through, and the culture around. All of them is important to design decision making.

I worked with Mark and Ian as a design team, conducting a competitive analysis, selecting a user category, creating a moodboard for inspiration, generating concepts, developing a design language and color palette, designing navigation, and refining several pages of a complete and comprehensive screen design. The difficulty in this task we encountered was how to find accurate clues from raw materials, convention, culture and so on, to better serve our users and clients.

My Contribution:

Personas, mood board, design language, interaction design

Design direction

Mourning the decay of architecture in New York City. Eliot Gregory’s article “Modern Architecture”consumed us with images of decay and despair over a city overcome by the grotesque excessiveness that adorn its buildings. Our design was influenced by this idea of excessiveness: the replacement of art and craftsmanship with efficiency. We envisioned a group of individuals who wanted to take back their city; to fight for simplicity, promote craft and build community.
